ETHOS
Enhancing the lives of those we serve is at the forefront of everything we do. As designers, we have a grand responsibility to hear, understand, and integrate what our clients and society evoke. It is only then that our priorities and at the root, our ethos will be intertwined together.
Guided by the spirit of our culture, time, and community our priorities and aspirations mold quickly becoming our ethos. When any of these three components are off balance, we may not be connecting with the people of the world in the right way. This imbalance may result in not improving humanity’s quality of life or needs. We strive to articulate ideas through usability, impact, and aesthetics using tools of artistry: concepts, craft, and expression. Our commitments to sustainability, equity, and social impact act as a guide in moving us forward in a respectful way. Our approach is to draw inspiration from our world and its vastness to create meaningful connections while leaving room for new innovations.
ROOTS
Our roots tell a story of community and extending the influence they already hold. In 2017, we opened our doors to enhance and protect what was already growing: a series of people working on their passions in a place called the Door Peninsula. Together, our tightly woven community has grown over the years and our Creative wanted a firm to further enhance these small businesses and organizations.
In the summer of 2010, Zachary Kunstman started a photography business on the Door Peninsula, a tourist destination for many in the Midwest in Wisconsin. Throughout his high school career, he heavily documented sports, the arts, and events. He competed in Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) where he triple qualified for the DECA International Conference in 2010 where he walked away in the top ten percent of competitors. After graduating from Gibraltar High School in Fish Creek, Wisconsin, he began helping businesses, non-profits, and the small villages with content generation through capturing images and video.
During his undergraduate career at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Zach continued to handle small projects in Lafayette and when he returned home to the Door Peninsula in the summers. His family’s history in photography helped evolve his unique eye and gift of capturing moments. This gift was often seen through the lens of his camera and resinating into his images and work making him quite popular for events, festivals, and weddings. While in Lafayette, he sat on a handful of boards through the university where he heavily assisted with the planning of large events, marketing, and membership management. Upon graduating with a Bachelors in Architecture, he moved back to his roots to determine where he wanted to move and do next in his career which lead to the creation of his second business.
Launched in June 2017, ZFMK Creative began to offer services to help invigorate the social media presence of businesses on and beyond the Door Peninsula. It aimed at providing businesses and non-profit organizations with brand strategy, social media management, and advising to help them remain relevant in a changing marketing environment. Due to the nature of the local economy, many businesses make their money during the tourist season from May through October. This results in some businesses not being able to hire an in-house marketing or content generation position. Originally, we were established to help with content generation such as pictures and video but have expanded our services into other aspects of emboldening the voices of our clients.

Our founder, Zach is an intellectual service-oriented professional experienced in an array of areas who is focused on advocacy of and is seeking responsible meaningful design that may integrate itself to build up the human experience while nurturing healthy lifestyles. Through architecture and real estate development, he advocates for multi-cycle, socially and environmentally sustainable, and human-centered built environments.
Growing up along the sandy shores of Lake Michigan on the beautiful Door Peninsula, blossomed some of my passions. A strong sense of community service, a wanting to help others, and a love for the community was inspired partly from growing up in the small village of Sister Bay, Wisconsin.
My passion for design began at a young age and became more evident through school and college. As a young boy, I can remember creating vast cities out of containers, cardboard cereal boxes, and things from the Hot Wheels sets on my bedroom floor that stretched from wall to wall. As I grew older, I began to notice things amid and always seemed to be awestruck by the built environment. Attaining more knowledge through my undergraduate career, I began to realize the importance of design and how it may be used to better the lives of those who come in contact with it.
My other passion with the potential to complement my design skills is a need to help and assist others. Growing up in a small community, everyone always helped those around them. We are all here on this planet together, and I believe that our passions may make it a better place when blended. Assisting others could be considered something as little as opening the door for someone or as grandiose as ensuring someone is comfortable in the built environment in which designers attribute.
In our profession, there are grand opportunities to become advocates of good design for all members of society. I am an advocate for the preservation of existing structures, incorporating sustainable components into buildings, and in designing structures that remain relevant across generations. Designers can promote these and other design practices to better the lifestyles of all people, produce meaningful design, and help preserve the environment. Good design should be made available to everyone and, it is an architect’s role to advocate, instigate, and defend the interests of the public.
